Training and Education from Neptune Research Inc (NRI)

NRI’s training and educational academy was developed to answer the growing need for a better understanding of composite repair systems for both engineers and installers alike. Known as NRI-U, our training and educational academy offers fully mobile training programs that can be conducted at one of our NRI-U’s training centers or onsite at your location.  NRI-U employs a skilled, highly trained staff. In addition to providing a full suite of product installation training programs, we offer site support and QC services. Our in-depth ECR system training and inspection programs cover all aspects of the installation process for each NRI ECR system and are in compliance with the relevant ASME and ISO standards which govern installer training.

HDD/New Construction

The NRI University Scar-Guard Installer training course has been designed to equip the student to utilize NRI’s Scar-Guard systems for the protection of pipe coating during construction and installation of the pipe (especially for HDD, Thrust Boring, Micro-tunneling, etc.) when damage to coating is likely to occur. Successful completion of this course will require the student to pass an oral test on the various aspects covered in the class as well as perform a satisfactory installation with the system being used; Scar-Guard (urethane, pre-impregnated), Scar-Guard E (epoxy, field saturated), and Scar-Guard UVC (UV-cured, pre-impregnated).

Composite Inspection Course

This course has been designed to teach the student the methods and procedures to properly verify and inspect Engineered Composite Repair (ECR) systems from start to finish. This course will discuss different types of ECR Systems, Engineering Assessment Forms, Engineering Design/Calculation documents, Quality Control points and forms, verifying proper surface preparation and cleaning, proper mixing of materials and saturation of fibers, methods and means of determining root cause of failures, and other items relevant to the usage of ECR systems. The inspection methods and processes discussed in this course will work with ECR systems to ensure proper installation and working conditions regardless of the specific product used. Time will be spent working with various tools used in the QC of ECR systems and an assessment test will be given.

Regulated Pipeline (Type A) Epoxy Installer Training

This course has been designed to equip the student to utilize NRI’s Engineered Composite Repair (ECR) systems for the repair of Type A defects on straight piping using either of NRI’s epoxy product lines, Trans-Wrap™ Apex, Thermo-Wrap™ Inspectable and Thermo-Wrap™ CF. Type A defects are defined by the ASME PCC-2 and ISO 24817 documents as non-leaking defects. This includes, but is not limited to, external corrosion defects up to 80% wall loss, dents, gouges, wrinkle bends, and faulty welds. Successful completion of this course will require the student to pass a written test on the various aspects covered in the class (see Agenda Outline below) as well as perform a repair on a corroded pipe section using one of NRI’s epoxy-based, ECR systems.

RPTA Trainer Training

This course has been designed to equip the student to be able to provide training to future installers of NRI’s ECR systems for Regulated Pipeline. The content will be similar to the Installer Training, but with additional requirement specific to how a trainer is to conduct the training, the data and documentation to use, and all follow up and student entry requirements. Training of installers is a critical component to the success of the repair and comes with great responsibility, and this course will ensure that all outside trainers have what is needed to succeed.

Regulated Pipeline (Type A) MCU Installer Training

This course has been designed to equip the student to utilize NRI’s Engineered Composite Repair (ECR) systems for the repair of Type A defects on straight piping using either of NRI’s MCU product lines Syntho-Glass® XT or Viper Skin®. Type A defects are defined by the ASME PCC-2 and ISO 24817 documents as non-leaking defects. This includes, but is not limited to, external corrosion defects up to 80% wall loss, dents, gouges, wrinkle bends, and faulty welds. Successful completion of this course will require the student to pass a written test on the various aspects covered in the class (see Agenda Outline below) as well as perform a repair on a corroded pipe section using NRI’s ECR system, Syntho-Glass XT.

Inspection Course

Process Piping (Type B) Installer Training

This course has been designed to equip the student to utilize NRI’s Engineered Composite Repair (ECR) systems for the repair of both, Type A and Type B defects on piping systems including straight pipe, elbows, and tees. Type A defects are defined by the ASME PCC-2 and ISO/TS 24817 documents as non-leaking defects. This includes, but is not limited to, external corrosion defects up to 80% wall loss, dents, gouges, wrinkle bends, and faulty welds. Type B defects are defined by the ASME PCC-2 and ISO/TS 24817 documents as leaking defects. This includes, but is not limited to, through-wall defects and internal corrosion which will result in wall loss below 0.04” (1mm). Successful completion of this course will require the student to pass a written test on the various aspects covered in the class (see Agenda Outline below) as well as perform repairs on a pipe section with external wall loss plus a 1” hole, an elbow, and a tee using two of NRI’s ECR systems. The Student’s repair on the 1” hole must pass a hydro-pressure test of at least 1,200 psi (83 bar) once fully cured. This course shall qualify the student to install the following ECR systems from NRI for Type A and Type B defects: Syntho-Glass® XT, Viper-Skin®, Thermo-Wrap™ Inspectable, Thermo-Wrap™ CF, and Acid-Shield™.

Composite Inspection Course

Thermo-Wrap® 500 Add-On

This add-on course provides additional training and qualification on the Thermo-Wrap 500 product at elevated temperatures to ensure the student understands the needs and concerns of conducting composite repairs on elevated temperatures.

Composite Clamp™ Add-On

This add-on course provides additional training for the proper installation of the Composite Clamp product. This clamp is designed to seal live leaks with a very low-profile clamp so that an ECR system may be installed successfully in leaking scenarios.

Syntho-Glass® UP Add-On

This add-on course provides additional training for the proper installation of the Syntho-Glass UP kit. This kit is designed to seal live leaks so that an ECR system may be installed successfully in leaking scenarios.

Trident Seal® Installer (TSI)

Completion of this course level enables the student to install NRI’s Trident Seal® system for the repair of leaking natural gas distribution lines with diameter up to 4” (102mm) and pressure up to 60 psi (4 bar).

Trident Wrap® Installer (TWI)

Completion of this course level enables the student to install NRI’s Trident Wrap® system for the repair of non-leaking, externally corroded natural gas distribution lines with diameter up to 4” (102mm) and pressure up to 300 psi (20 bar).

Trident Distribution Trainer (TDT)

Completion of this requirement level enables the student to train future students and future trainers on all of NRI’s composite systems. TDT encompasses all credentials required by NRI to perform all functions of training for all of NRI’s Trident systems. This level is only available to official NRI Trident Distributors.

Trident Seal Trainer (TST)

Completion of this course level enables the student to train future students to install NRI’s Trident Seal® system for the repair of leaking natural gas distribution lines with diameter up to 4” (102mm) and pressure up to 60 psi (4 bar). TST course completion encompasses TSI credentials and abilities.

Trident Wrap Trainer (TWT)

Completion of this course level enables the student to train future students to install NRI’s Trident Wrap® system for the repair of non-leaking, externally corroded natural gas distribution lines with diameter up to 4” (102mm) and pressure up to 300 psi (20 bar). TWT course completion encompasses TWI credentials and abilities.
