PREPARATION & APPLICATION
-
1
Locate area of corrosion. If corrosion is at the air to spoil interface, dig up the riser to approx 1" below the length of area to be repaired.
Note: Proper repair of the riser piping requires a min. of 1 inch of good pipe above and below the pipe wall surface to be repaired. Note: If the pipe surface area to be repaired is longer than 12 inches a second repair kit will be required.
-
2a
Clean and remove loose scale, rust and old paint 1" above and below repair area using high grit sandpaper, emery cloth orwire brush.
-
2b
Wipe surface area with an isopropyl alcohol or equivalent substance then wipe dry with a clean cloth.
-
3
Measure repair area to determine if one or more kits are needed for the corresponding length. (1 kitcovers 12" of repair area percorresponding diameter.)
Note: If the pipe surface area to be repaired is longer than 12 inches a second repair kit will be required. -
4
Mark area slightly above and below repair area for proper application.
-
5
Open kit, take out bi-pack of Trident-Reinforcing Epoxy, remove plastic separator and begin mixing / kneading epoxy inside of pouch until no streaks remain.
-
6
Once the epoxy has been mixed thoroughly, put on enclosed gloves. Using hands, uniformly apply all of the epoxy to the entire pipe circumference from the bottom of the marked area up to the top.
-
7
Uniformly smooth out epoxy with putty knife for proper coverage. Inspect the entire repair circumference to insure that no bare spots are exposed. (Ideally you should have approx. 60 mils of application.)
-
8
Remove used gloves and put on the second pair of gloves. Open Trident-Glass foil pouch, immerse roll in water for 10-20 seconds.
-
9
Begin wrapping with a 50% overlap starting 1" above the epoxied area. Continue wrapping downward 1" below the epoxied area and then back up until 4 passes have been applied. (Each pass is 2 layers with a 50% overlap for a total of 8 layers.)
-
10
Squeeze and mold the Trident-Glass Outer Wrap firmly after it has been applied for approx 5 minutes or more, until the Trident-Glass Outer Wrap becomes tacky.
