BP Amoco Saves Big
Syntho-Glass® XT saves BP Amoco's Mahogany Alpha Platform off the coast of Trinidad.
During a scheduled shutdown, a heavily corroded 16" OD Hydrocarbon Balancing Header Pipeline was identified, with approximately 61% wall loss. If left unfixed, it would jeopardize BP Amoco's production output and start up schedule.
NRI, together with ACTS (Anti Corrosion Technical Services), engineered and installed a composite rehabilitation system which restored the integrity of the Balancing Header back to MAOP. The design justification for the pipeline was a 96" composite repair on the 16" OD 1440psi carbon steel schedule API-5L Grade B header. BP Amoco was able to restart operations within 24 hours of pre-scheduled start up, allowing BP Amoco to regain use of the platform without further downtime.
